Katto is the brainchild of Josh and Thomas, two best friends, in 2018. Since then, Katto have been making incredible Chef Knives with Japanese steel blades and hand carved wooden handles in the UK.
After getting diagnosed with an acute anxiety disorder, Josh found himself turning to all kinds of solutions to help him. From quitting drinking to taking up yoga, nothing seemed to calm his mind. That was when a friend suggested cooking.
"It didn't seem to matter if I was reading a cookbook, shopping for obscure ingredients or quietly podding peas: time spent cooking (or thinking about cooking) was time that I wasn't worrying."

After discovering his new love for cooking, Josh went on to try and buy new kit for his kitchen. He wanted beautiful knives, sturdy chopping boards and lots more beside. Whilst searching for quality kitchenware that had character and was a win when it comes to sustainability without costing an arm and a leg, he realised there wasn't really anything out there that fit the bill. So, Josh and Thomas decided to make the tools they were looking for themselves!
"We believe that people nowadays want to own fewer, better things. Things which last. Things which they're proud to own. Things which make their days (and dinners) better. "

Their workshop is located in the Neepsend district of Sheffield near the banks of the River Don overlooking Kelham Island. Here, everything is made by hand and sustainability is at the forefront of what they do. This area was once home to the best knife makers in the World and is currently undergoing a really exciting renaissance. They have a team of six people in the workshop overseen by Master Craftsman, Mike. Plus two full timers in the warehouse making sure that all the orders arrive on time.
